Gordon McGruer is a songwriter and pedal steel guitarist based in Edinburgh, Scotland. He approaches the stage with “earnest singing, and his unwavering confidence on the guitar” to sing folk songs about drunk magicians, truckloads of bees and stealing soil from a rich man’s garden. Gordon’s recent explorations include a suite of lullabies and hymns arranged for the pedal steel. These ballads seek to recontextualise the steel guitar as a songwriter’s instrument, uprooting it from its backing role in country and western.
